Company Profile Hildegard Gunzel - Artist Dolls


Hildegard Gunzel is one of the most famous doll and bear makers and has won many international awards for her work, including the "Lifetime Achievement Award", in 2003.

Born in 1945, she later graduated from the German Masterschool for fashion design in Munich.

In 1972 she started making dolls and today produces exquisite dolls in both wax over porcelain and resin. Hildegard also makes by hand, unique and loveable bears in very small limitations, which are quickly sold out worldwide. Most of her dolls are handmade in Duisburg, Germany where she has also opened her own "Museum for Contemporary Doll Art" to the public.

In Hildegard's own words, "let them take you by the hand and lead you to discover your own land of imagination".

Wax Over Porcelain Dolls

The designs of Hildegard's wax over porcelain dolls depict very enjoyable and memorable moments in the life of a child. Her sculptered figures are carefully coated in a fine layer of wax, which forms the "skin" of the doll and gives them astonishing warmth and realism.
